The Sims 3 not working

★ Novice

Hi all,

few days ago I buy a new The Sims 3 (night life and generations), after installation the game stopped working. I tried uninstall Origin few times, I talk to few people from Origin support they gave me some ideas how to fix it, but none of them was working. When I press play to the game theres error message that says - an unknown error occurred.

So the game wont even launch..

I followed these steps and it didn't help - 1. Open your local hard drive.
Macs have two library folders: a root level folder and a user level library folder (~). Follow the root level folder.
2. Open the Library folder.
You can either use the keys Command ⌘ + Shift + G or use Finder > Go > Go to Folder.
Open the Application Support folder, then open the Origin folder.
Delete the DownloadCache folder.
Empty your Trash.
Log in to the Origin client and check for your games in My Game Library.

And I also followed these steps. Also didn't work.

3. Navigate to Preferences folder.

4. Trash the following files and folder:
- The Sims 3 Preferences folder
- com.transgaming.... files (this files begin with this name type)
- Note: Depending on the version of the game installed the following may not exist, if these exist it's advise to trash them.
* ipatcher files
* Cider Preferences folder

5. Empty your trash.
- Note: For Lion users this folder will be hidden, and they will to perform the bellow steps:
* Open Finder.
* Hold down Alt (Option) and choose Go from the dropdown menu bar at the top of the screen.
* The ~/Library folder will be listed below the Home folder.

And now It is not possible to me to contact Origin support again, do not know why. Im from Europe, so they cannot call me and I do not want them to, but its not possible for me to start the chat with Origin support.... So if theres any idea how to fix it, it would be really great. And Im a MAC user.

Re: The Sims 3 not working

@Dominka22  I've moved your post to the Sims/Mac forum, since this is a Mac-specific issue.

There are at least two workarounds for the unknown error that you'll need to apply.  First though, run the Super Patch (digital download version) to manually patch the game.  The launcher doesn't always do a thorough job of patching on its own, and running the Super Patch won't hurt.

For the unknown error, the first workaround is simple: create an alias (icon) for Night Life (Late Night) in Applications\The Sims 3, next to the alias for the base game.

The second workaround is to copy a folder from Night Life into the folder for Generations.  This video shows you exactly what to do:

If you still get an unknown error after all this, please provide your computer's specs, as described in this post:

Please also list any other packs you have installed.

Hi,

thank you, but it didnt help. I tried to contact ea support, they gave me some advice, didnt help. I updated my OS, didnt help,

I dont know what to do next, should I delete the night life and island paradise or should I buy another one pack (like generations or something).

Its a shame cause the whole game cost me money and now i cant even play it :D

Do you have any ideas what to do?

At the moment i am not able to reach the ea help, dont know why, I am from europe. I contacted them like week ago, and now its not possible for me (only calling, and i prefer chat with them).

Thank you..

Re: The Sims 3 not working

@Dominka22  Since it's been so long, it might be best to start with a clean uninstall, then reinstall the base game only, just to see whether it will work.

https://bluebellflora.com/how-to-do-a-clean-uninstall-and-reinstall-on-a-mac/

Be sure to run the Super Patch (digital download version) as well.

However, you mentioned you updated your OS.  If you've now running Catalina, Sims 3 won't even install, let alone run, because the game is 32-bit and Catalina is 64-bit only.  There's a 64-bit-compatible version of Sims 3 coming for macOS at some point, but it's not here yet.

Thank you, I will try it! If I uninstall and then reinstall again, do I need a new code for the game?

Re: The Sims 3 not working

@Dominka22  Nope, you don't need another code.  The game is tied to your Origin account, and you can download it onto the same computer as many times as you like, or even on several different computers if you want.
