sim disappears traveling to sims3 university

When I have a sim travel to university the sim disappears and I cannot go back home. I am forced to start a new game and select a new household and the sim and the land it came from can no longer be played.

Unfortunately, it's a rather common issue.

Do you have a backup before going ?

Im furious with sims 3 right now and will not buy anything

else from them until this is fixed!!!
