new game update

I tried to download the new game patch for Sims3 yesterday. It would go through the whole process but when I went to start the game it said there was a new game update. I tried it 3 times with the same result. I also cannot accept any gifts from my friends and am having a lot of trouble with freezing. I have a lot of omni plants and bills in my inventory but I have read that the new patch will take care of that problem.
