Sims 3 way too dark on Windows 8.1

My game is running perfectly fine on Windows 8.1 with the exception that it is so dark! Daytime seems like it's the evening! Is there any way to get the game to have a lighter display without having to leave fullscreen?

Make sure your graphics drivers are up-to-date. What graphics card do you have ?
