Sims 3 game launcher doesn't run

I've installed my Sims 3 game onto my computer and while I can run the game by finding it manually through my files, I can't start up the game launcher. I want to install expansion packs, but I can't because every time I click install, a message pops up saying that I need to update my version of Sims 3 through the game launcher. When I actually try to start the game launcher, a window appears telling me that the game launcher has stopped working and that windows is looking for a solution. However, after about ten seconds this window disappears and nothing happens.
