My sims 3 keeps freezing and closing

My sims 3, after about 20 minutes of gameplay always seems to freezing for 10 minutes and then close, i do not get a black screen but I get messages saying it is not responding. I have a windows 7 which I run it on, but I have been trying to solve this and have been changing the compatibility of the game. I would really like to continue playing. Please help!

What is your operating system
At what point does your game crash ? Any regularities ?
How long can you usually play ?
Which EP/SPs do you have installed ?
Are you using custom content and mods in your game ?
