Brooklyn Boss Upgrading Trouble

Hi, I just recently started playing again and was psyched to see the summer bosses. I upgraded my King to an 84 and put him in my lineup, but when I got my lvl 3 boss token and tried to upgrade him to 88, I couldn't get him from my lineup to the set...what should I do?
