Graphics Glitch in Screenshots

★★★★ Novice

Hi! I'm having issues with my in-game screenshots. I have a new MacBook Pro (specs below). The in-game C key screenshots -- both CAS and in the game -- are coming out really glitched. They have this weird overlay, sometimes show an artifact of the previous screen, and show the UI even though it's set to not show. This happens with and without mods. Taking a screenshot with the OS mechanism (cmd + shift + 3/4/5) has no problems.

I've linked to two screenshots showing a CAS screenshot taken with the in-game key and with the computer's mechanism for comparison (files were too big for upload):

  • In-game key:
  • Cmd+shift+5:

I have also attached my config.log file.

Specs:

MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2020, Four Thunderbolt 3 ports)

2.3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7

32 GB 3733 MHz LPDDR4X

Intel Iris Plus Graphics 1536 MB

Running Catalina 10.15.6

Thanks in advance! Let me know if I can provide any additional information.

This is......weird!

Does it happen in a new save? Actually, could you move your whole Sims 4 folder to the desktop and load the game so it is like new again. Go into CAS and take a picture and see if it still does it.

Oh interesting! Could you send me your save? Upload it to a file sharing site or share via the Discord channel you reached out on Standard smile

@Bluebellflora

I couldn't get the problem to duplicate again (after not being able to stop it - typical). I re-added my mods, saves, and tray files one by one back into the clean sims folder and don't seem to be having the problem anymore. The only thing I can remember doing since I got the new computer, other than fiddling with the graphics settings in the game, is editing the graphicscards.sgr file to add in my unrecognized graphics card (I was getting the "Unrecognized Video Card" error). That file is still in its edited state. Could choosing bad graphics settings be the culprit?

I haven't found the exact level of graphics settings that triggers the glitch, but that's definitely the issue. When I changed them all to the upper limit the glitch game back.

Switching the lighting setting from high to very high (all other graphics settings as high as possible) causes the glitch. With and without mods.

@aritambourine

Well done on adding your card Standard smile If it was the in-game settings that triggered it that would explain why a new folder cleared it up, because the Options.ini file that stores your settings was recreated.

Intel Iris graphics are pretty weak so having your settings too high may be the issue although this is the first time I've seen the issue with the in-game screenshot function ever.
