One ear Deaf gamer

★★★ Novice

Hi, my name is Asem

I'm going straight to the point, I'm deaf in my right ear and have issue with pinging out sound location. I tried a lot of solutions but none of them worked but recently I found a technology/feature used in ROG motherboards called "sonic radar" :

https://rog.asus.com/technology/rog-sound-innovations/sonic-radar/

I contacted with one of advisors and he suggested to open a topic in game forum and I wanted to know if it is against game rules or not?

I'm sure a lot of gamers like me exist with this issue and due to this problem we can't perform like a normal person so any help would be appreciated

It's tough to say if this would be legal or not.

It depends on how sensitive this would be.
Many people don't pay that much attention to sound allowing you literally run past them unnoticed or catch them by surprise form behind or a flank.

If this can detect minor soft foot falls this would be an extremely advantage for those who use it. I do get that your right ear is deaf which will make your game experience far more difficult compared to anyone who has 2 fully functional ears. But this feature might get abused to those who need an extra edge / indicator to help them out spot enemies even faster.

Have you tried panning your audio settings ( windows ) slighly more to the left?

This should help improve your problem, softer pings, footsteps will most likely be coming from the right and louder steps/pings from your left. Maybe that might do the trick.

Thank you

You're right it can be abused but as far as I know this feature is only available on supported motherboards and can't use it on normal ones. And yes I tried panning, it's just confusing me more than ever

well than I hope it's legal in your case if not, it might be helpful to alert your squad that you're right ear is deaf so they can give your proper call outs over voice.

Maybe it'd be worth opening a ticket with EA about it?

Hi.  I'm 100% deaf in my left ear and only just found out about the ASUS Sonic Radar!  I already have a Z170 pro motherboard (and have done for some years!) so will give this a go this weekend.

I really struggle to see how this would be considered cheating, mainly because there is nothing stopping fully able players from also using the tool.  Personally I think it's unlikely to be better than natural hearing, my team mates often tell me the direction of gun fire while i'm still spinning around in circles looking for a fight.

Personally I'd like to think people running / playing these games would be okay with using technology to allow disadvantaged players a (more) level playing field.  I can't believe the (non-competitive/professional) gaming industry would be so far behind the rest of the world in this.

I'm against this type of thing in lobbies for the general player population.

I would, however, support a special lobby for players who may wish to use aids and enhancements due to disabilities. This could include using specialist controllers and other peripherals, as well as helpful utilities. As long as they are officially approved by EA and each player individually vetted.

Sonic radar is a good programm and helps a lot once you figured how it works, but it´s realy borderline to use it because some devs consider it cheating and some not.... that´s why i disabled it on my PC until some devs say it´s legal
