Trouble With Menu on a Windows Vista Laptop

Everything is find when I put it in my laptop. The little commercial comes on and then the main screen with the title of The Sims 3. After about 2 seconds, it closes and says that Windows is having a problem. I have no clue what the problem is. My uncle even tried and he is a genius but he couldn't get it either. Please let me know because I just got it for Christmas and I have been waiting to play this for forever!!! Thanks
