I lost my Sims 3 pets disc. Can I play if I buy a new (different) expansion pack?

I don't have the disc (kids lost it), but I have the case with the pw. Do I need the actual disc?

As long as you have the base game (The Sims 3) installed in your computer, you won't need the discs of your expansions in order to install a new expansion pack.
