Food goes bad as soon as I grab a plate

Whenever my sim tries to grab a plate of a nice quality group meal, it spoils in his hands as he's walking to the table. The rest of the group meal is still good though. This has happened with multiple sims.

It's a Mac. No, I have expansion packs and store stuff but no cc or mods. I think I figured it out, I think it's because I moved houses. Leftovers from before the move were still "nice quality" until someone grabbed a plate, then they went bad, but any new food made stayed good.
