Sims 3 base game wont update

I have a Mac computer and I recently brought Sims 3 base game and Late night expansion pack. I installed Sims 3 base game and Late night and I updated that and it worked fine. 

Every time I go to play the game it says I have to update the base game but when I go to update it, it crashes half way through every time and I can't play anything.

I un-installed the base game and late night and re-installed both but I am still having the same problems.

I need help badly, how do I fix this problem???
