PC Frozen on 1.0.631.00107 update

I had the sims 3 and several expansions on my laptop previously and had uninstalled it. When I tried reinstalling the game I had issues installing the expansion packs. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game again but I still can't get the expansion packs to show up. Whenever I try to install an expansion pack it says update the base game. I then tried updating the base game but an error came up saying "unable to connect to EA Download Manager." I then tried reinstalling origin, downloading the game directly from origin and also trying to use the old ea download manager but no luck. I then went on several websites to manually update the patch through the sims 3 forum but error messages came up as well. How do I get it to update from version 1.0.631.00107?
