Need help with the sims 3

I am wanting to see about playing sims 3 on pc. I will be using my lab top. I bought an expansion pack of sims 3 island paradise. I have windows 10. I get an error message saying I need the sims 3. I am looking for that to download then I guess I can download my other game to play them. Where can I find the sims 3 that I need to download, so that I can play the expansion pack.
