How to install sims 3 on windows 8.1?

What I've tried-insert disc, not select autoplay, locate sims3setup.exe, run as administrator.
I've also tried doing autorun. Either way it will start to install and stop almost halfway through and it will say error:incorrect function.
"File: D:\GameData\Shared\Packages\FullBiild.1package".

I know it's not the disc because it worked fine on my old windows vista computer. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

@WhiteFluffyCat81  The software on the disc is out of date. I recommend redeeming the game code in Origin (you'll have to install the game in Origin in order to use expansion packs) and getting the digital download from Origin.
