Downloading expansion packs for Sims 3 on win 8

I've just bought Hidden Springs expansion pack for Sims 3 which I'm running on windows 8.  When I try to download from The Sims 3 purchase history web site it launches Origin, but nothing happens.  Nothing appears in the downloading section of Origin.

I've tried running origin as Administrator, tried different compatibility settings etc.

Nothing.

This is really very frustrating and should not be this difficult.

hidden springs is a world not an expansion pack once you downloa dit you find it in the main menu +new game to start playing with it your game will play from your last installed game expansion pack or stuff pack you download hidden springs from your the sims 3 account purchase history
