Java and Internet Explorer

I cannot play any game on IE or Firefox that requires Java.  This has been going on about a week now and is getting very old fast.  Can anyone please help me?  I have already gotten all of the latest versions of the programs, deleted cache and the normal things.  Nothing is helping.
