can't open messages in C&C TA

tried without and with message scripts, from multiple people, on different computers, etc. if it  matters the world is wrath 17 but it shouldn't. old worlds should still be able to have messages. any fixes? someone sent me a message responding to a question i asked in alliance chat and now i can't open it to get their response.
