Hi:
I been having this problem everytime no matter playing single or multiplayer.
always crash after 2-10mins playing.(to be more specific: during this 2-10mins I can play smoothly )
DirectX function "GetDeviceRemovedReason' failed with DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG ("The application's device failed due to badly formed commands sent by the application. This is a design-time issue that should be Investigated and fixed.").
System: Windows 8.1 64bit
Memory: 8GB
GPU: 6870 1GB and R9 280X 3GB (NO OVERCLOCK!)
Driver: 13.9 WHQL and 13.11 BETA 7
CPU: i7 2600K (NO OVERCLOCK!)
i HAVE both BF3 and BF4 install
l can run BF3 smoothly with ultra setting AAx8 @ 1920x1080 full screen 50-60FPS, without any problem.
I tried both graphic card 6870 and the new R9 280X and both drivers 13.9 and 13.11 BETA 7
Also tried multiple way to fix this issue but none of them works.
Here is the list of things I tried to do:
1) change the Unicode to English and system language to English.
2) using the game repair function in Origin (says everything is all good).
3)go to the BF4 folder and manually install the directX and VC2012 both X64 and X86 version
4) Update the punkbuster to latest version (successful)
5) run the BF4.EXE as an administrator
6) run the BF4.EXE in compatibility mode (Windows Vista/SP1/SP2, Windows 7)
7) Reduce the video quality to low at 1920x1080 full screen ,or 1024x768 window
8) Delete PROFSAVE_PROFILE under the Documents/Battlefield4/settings
9) DELETE THE ENTIRE GAME AND REDOWNLOAD THE WHOLE 24G FILES!

Hello EA,
I have purchased your Battlefield 4 and Battlefield4 premium pack for PC. Now the game itself I see is great " from what I can play" . Due to your game client closing out after about 5 minutes of EVERY TIME I LOAD, it closes out and tells me that the-
" Game client crashes and says error directX function " GetDeviceRemovedReason" failed DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG (" The application's device failed due to badly performed commands sent by application. This is an desogn-time issue that should be investigated and fixed. GPU " nvidia geforce GTX 570" , Driver 33165."
I made a forum post about 20 hours ago and have yet to play more than 5 minutes before that error comes up. Due to my video card has 0 problems with " Warcraft, starcraft, league of legends, starwars TOR, and other games I play time to time I would not be changing out my video card for this game. I see that your return policy is very strict and I hope you get this before that 24 hour time period or at least see the time stamp of my forum post and of this Time 6:40pm " note not 24 hours from oct 28 9:00pm release" I have played this game for about 20-30 minutes not including beta. And this problem did not happen during beta which is why I pre ordered both battlefield 4 and the premium packs.
I would like a refund due to the fact I CAN'T PLAY THE GAME, and would be happy to purchase this game once a few patches address this situation. I still look forward to playing this game and hope to hear back as soon as possible.
Thanks
Devon

This was an error for Battlefield 3 too. I got to put like 12 hours into the game and no more.
Dice and EA never released a fix for it on BF3 besides downclocking your gpu to 300MHz.
Now this error is showing up in this game, its honestly sad.

RESOLUTION
Go to the BF4 folder in .\origin games\Battlefield 4\
Open .\_Installer\directx\redist
Right click on DXSETUP.exe and click "Run as Administrator"
complete the install, enjoy.
That didn't work.
I set my refresh rate to 50. That didn't fix it, but it lets me play twice as long now before a crash.

Couldn't wait to play the game yesterday.
Installed everything looks fine.
Start up single player
Screen goes black I hear audio from the game still.
Comes back on and I get this error message, directx error GetDeviceRemovedReason with dxgi_error_device_hung.
My card is a EVGA GTX 660 Superclocked edition
OS I'm running is windows 8.1 64-Bit
Drivers I have installed are the latest 331.65 drivers.

The same thing plagued BF3. It would throw this error with overclocked cards, and would work fine when the overclock was dialed down to normal speeds. It was never addressed that I am aware of, by any BF3 patch attempt, which does not bode well for BF4, IMO, as if it's beyond repair.

I am also having this issue with a 2500k and 280x.
If I had MSI afterburner installed, the crash was almost instant. I installed the beta and I haven't noticed recently.
