Spore will freeze after selecting "herbivore or carnivore" [ Edited ]

As stated in the title, after I select whether my creature is a carnivore or herbivore, the game will go black and I can't see anything. There's still audio, but the only way to exit is by using alt+f4. 

(I am running Spore on Steam on a Windows 11 laptop)

Edit: whoops, I meant after I begin the world. After I fill out all of the info of my world (carnivore/herbivore, planet name, difficulty), the game zooms in on the planet, fades to black, and never fades back in. There's still audio and sound effects, but I am unable to see anything.
