Product: The Sims 4
Platform:Mac
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Often (50% - 99%)
What is your current game version number? 1.96.365.1030
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? Seasons, cats and dogs, get together, discover university, free holiday, parenthood, toddler stuff, cottage living, strangeville, get to work,
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Try using a parenting option (like feed or change diapers) for an infant that has more than one need in the red
What happens when the bug occurs? If an infant has two or more needs in the red, or one need red and one yellow, any attempts to actually resolve those needs will be repeatedly interrupted / canceled by “check infant” leading to a loop where you have to keep pausing to cancel the “check infant” as it appears, before it managed to cancel your attempts to actually solve the problem
What do you expect to see? If a parenting interaction is currently being used or queued, don’t auto cancel it to “check infant”. Generally, being less over zealous about the “check infant” effect.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Neutral/Not Sure
I’ve tested with and without mods and this still happens. It is possible to get around this by pausing and canceling the check infant, but it won’t just appear once. It’ll keep coming back very frequently. Sometimes I have to cancel it 3x or more while just trying to walk across a room and put baby down in the high chair. It’s really disruptive.

Same, my queue kept getting canceled out while I was trying to feed the infant. It kept getting overridden, causing the baby's hunger to drop down in the red and I got the social worker warning. I was trying to feed him, but the parents wanted to do something else instead and kept interrupting with "checking". I constantly had to cancel the "check infant" option out. If the interaction wasn't interrupted by the infant check, he would have been fed and not waiting for his food and getting hungrier. I found infants very frustrating to play because of this.
I have all EPs, GPs, SPs and a few kits (Lil' Campers, Country Kitchen, and Desert Luxe.)
I agree that the "check infant" thing should be tweaked. It just makes caring for the infant harder by having to try to direct your sim to do what you want them to do over and over. The checking results in the infant being neglected or at least it did in my game. On at least two occasions, the parent left work because they apparently had a "check infant" interaction lined up before leaving, so they came back home to "check" and missed work.

What’s worse is they’re not even smart about it. They’ll queue several “check infant” interactions in front of whatever I told them to do - like feed them - and if I don’t cancel these all these checks ever result in is “cuddle” or multiple “put down” actions so they just stand there picking them up so they can put them down. A couple times the “put down” instead of being on the floor was into the high chair, but they didn’t explore food with them afterward and unfortunately those weren’t times my infant was hungry anyway. It took 5 Sim hours to put the infant to bed once because they would just keep putting them on the floor or in the high chair, canceling my put to bed and even the infant’s auto attempt to just sleep on the floor.
Same with newborns - before the patch, my parent Sims would cycle through shush, feed, change if the baby wouldn’t stop crying. Now they just keep cuddling over and over unless I pause the game, cancel the queue, and tell them to feed or change diaper before restarting.

Yes! This is exactly it- check infant leads to cuddling and putting them down but cancels the actual feed or change diaper or useful interactions!

Same problem here! It basically makes my adult sims into toddlers needing to bw cared for too! My infant might be sleeping, and both adults just freeze and stand around waiting for the infant to wake up so they can check infant. No matter how terrible their needs get, they just stand around waiting for the infants to wake up... I mean I know theyre cute but not to die for cute!

This overenthusiasm seems to extend to toddlers as well. I've twice now failed to celebrate toddlers' birthdays because since their needs weren't all full the parent kept queuing multiple "put down" actions even after helping them blow out candles, and as soon as they picked them back up it would cancel the "age up" action. Spent 60 or 70 dollars on candles for one of them, and each time, the parent would immediately pick them up again after putting them down, canceling the age up. Of course the toddler's needs were only getting worse the longer the attempt took. Eventually got frustrated and used testing cheats to kill Sim by vicious rabbit (even that she put off doing for a while so she could keep picking up the toddler and putting it down) then quit without saving. With my second attempt to age up a toddler, I told the parent to help blow out candles and then go jogging afterward - my standard go-to when a parent is getting in the way. But they still managed to queue an extra "pick up" action on the toddler! They canceled the poor baby's birthday, dropped them on the ground outside, then went for their jog.

Played a bit more and here's a major thing I noticed:
Once mine learned how to sit up, the parents need to check on the infant decreased significantly. I had twins, so I noticed this because one learnt how to sit and after that the parents only kept constantly checking the one who didn't sit. For the one who knew how to sit they only checked needs maybe once or twice a day, whereas with the other one they kept checking all the time.

@Bnibuilds Hmm... so maybe in a way it's partly fixed by buying the pack? Because without the pack they never "learn" to sit up, they just can from the beginning. And parents are constantly queuing "check infant" which just turns into either "cuddle" or "put down" no matter what they need.
But if they've put in extra coding to make sure the infants are taken care of while they can't move in Growing Together (maybe overdone it), and then in base game the milestone never happens to trigger turning it off... and then maybe since it's not properly turned off it's still affecting even toddlers...

I agree. The check baby has too high of a priority. I've had instances where I have both parents home with mom is taking care of the infant and dad is nearby doing something else, yet for some reason the game automatically queues mom to abandon caring for the infant for the newborn. It's crazy annoying to try and take care of multiple toddlers/infants/newborns because no matter what your Sim keeps randomly dropping caring for one toddler/infant/baby to care for the other. I do like the automatic caregiving popping up so that I don't need to select feed/change diaper, but it's a bit overturned.
Also another annoying thing is that the new menus have buried feeding/changing diaper behind social interactions. Wish that the game would default make feed/change diaper in first menu right away so we aren't going through multiple menus all the time to direct them to care for the newborn. There are times when they'll check on the newborn, but instead of feeding/changing diaper they'll do a bunch of social interactions repeatedly.

Yes! I might queue up a bunch of interactions between the dad and the infant, only for the mum to swoop in and literally take the infant from the dad's arms to check on it, cancelling all queuee interactions!
