[FIXED] Sims reset/drop action/missing pie menu when playing an instrument [ Edited ]

Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Just click on an instrument
What happens when the bug occurs? The task cancels
What do you expect to see? There's no option to write songs, or do anything musical except to practice.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Never used.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? No

I downloaded the February 27th, 2024 update and this immediately started happening.

I'm not 100% sure if all platforms have rolled out but I'm going to lock this now.

Addressed an issue where Sims that had achieved certain skill levels and had unlocked or crafted specific recipes, or had written music, were then unable to select interactions on themselves, on other Sims, and on certain objects.

What can you do if you still have issues ?

1. Remove all your mods/cc and delete the localthumbcache file. This IS important. Test without them.

2. Repair the game

3. Check your game version. You can find it in the lower right corner of your main menu. It should be: 1.105.332 or 1.88 for console

4. If you still have issues, create a new thread and provide your Sim to the gallery. Make sure to post WHICH objects you still have issues with

There were a lot of threads and some were just turning into collections. I did not read every post in here either so it's possible that strays landed here. If you had a different issue, create a new thread (again, remove your mods/cc first)

Hi! I now have the same issue and I suppose it occured after I've updated the game today (because yesterday everything was working just fine).

I have two Sims in my household and one of them is not able to play the guitar and violin. The other can play both.

I play on a Mac and I'm having the same problem except no interaction menu appears at all when I click on the guitar. No options to practice, bow for inspiration, place in inventory, etc. Nothing happens when clicking on guitar.

Same, this is the first glitch I've had in years (no mods or cc ever). My Sims no longer play the guitar, not just the one that was playing fine yesterday. Her roommate can't, I even left the guitar in the apt hallway and the neighbor can't either (they do a quick T-pose in front of it and then go do other things). 

PC, every expansion downloaded, most stuff packs except Wedding Stories, half the game packs. Let me know if I need to be more specific.

Edit: I needed my Sim to play guitar to level up for Acting, just sent her to work and during the scene she played guitar. No one can outside of acting.

I play on a Mac. In one of my no CC/mods game saves both my sims will not play guitar or violin.

But if I start a new save in a no CC/mods game and place a new sim from CAS and then download a copy of the same sims in the other game from my library, all three can play any instrument with no problem.

So this glitch is old save specific. New saves with new sims from either CAS or the library can play with no problem.

edit to add info: I was able to put a sim into the old save from both my Library and CAS, and those sims could play all instruments. So the old save is not the determining factor, but old sims in old saves.

Update 2/27/2024 for PC (1.105.297.1030) created a bug that prevents writing and publishing music. The only option when selecting an instrument is to play it. The mailbox doesn't allow publishing either.

I am having the same exact issue..My aim refuses to play the guitar. She will play any other instruments thou. Just waves her hands in the air in frustration. Happened right after the latest update today when I updated my game. Also... There is another bug as well. I have "The definitive in my inventory. If I click on it, the game immediately crashes. I'm playing on XBox X. This just started today as well. I was gonna decorate my secret room for the diamond agent career sim but if I click on the definitive to try to decorate, the game crashes..

Confirmed. But it only seems to affect existing Sims. Might be related to this issue. 

Sim Refuses Guitar

Since today's patch my sims can no longer play handheld instruments such as the guitar or violin.  They can still play the piano and organ.  I do not play with mods or cc.  My sims are maxed on the instrument level.  I have tried multiple sims on multiple saves.  The "practice" action option is no longer available.  When you select play song and work through the options, the sim glitches for a moment then just stands there.  They have no options to touch the objects or use the objects from their inventory.  The only way to even see play options is to place them in world.  Very inconvenient.

It started after an update. It was just fine yesterday I've tried different guitars on different lots nothing I even made a new file and it works on that one but not on the one that I'm previously playing on
