[FIXED] [GALLERY] 'Item Name' search results are not accurate

[ Edited ]
★★★ Guide

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? 1.98.127.1030
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? All except most kits
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Go to the gallery and search for something specific by item name
What happens when the bug occurs? Gallery searches under "Item name" no longer give perfect matches (or even close matches...?) to input. I honestly have no explanation. The search results are so far away from what I'm typing in.
What do you expect to see? I expect to type in the name of something and see the names of the returned search items match what I typed in. We have been searching by item name to find things with a specific name. Usually it's the name of a lot in game, to find either a reno or a build for a specific lot. Or to find households with a particular description (family with teens, etc).
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Yes
Please describe the patch or change you made. The gallery update following patch 1.98.127.1030.

Used "Pier Perfection" as an example. The old gallery would have only returned results that matched pier perfection. Now the results are completely unrelated. Occasionally it tosses me one with "perfect" in the name, and VERY occasionally an actual match. But searching by name is basically useless now. None of the options to sort or narrow down results improve the results. It doesn't matter what I select. The results are completely useless.

Searching by Item Name should feel more like it used to when using multiple words. We have returned to AND operators instead of OR operators.
This means if you search for the words Cat Dog, you will get results where Cat and Dog appear in the Item name, not results where only Cat or Dog was used.
You will also see results that are not an exact to the word you searched, for example Cat will show items that used the word Cat or Cats included in the name.

Fixed in Patch 1.100.147/1.80

I believe that's what the patch notes are referring to. I tested Pier perfection and that gave me good results now.

Any feedback ?

Inaccurate gallery search issues

[ Edited ]

Good morning! I just wanted to make the team aware of the search issue ever since the gallery update. The search feature has become very inaccurate. Searching for something comes up with a lot of things you did not type in the search bar compared to how it was before the update.

Here is one example: Before the update I downloaded a celebrity from the gallery named Allu Arjun. I typed in his name as exactly that and he came up. Only him and a few other sims came up with that name. Fast forward to after the update. I messed up his edit and went to redownload him. I typed in Allu Arjun and like 1000 random sims came up and no matter how much I searched I could not find him.

If I am not mistaken I suspect the problem is that the gallery now only searches one word. Like a lot of sims came up with the name Arjun, but not one Allu Arjun.

This makes it really hard to find celebrities or builds that require more than one word to find exactly what you are looking for. I hope this is something the team can look into at some point. However, the gallery is MUCH faster so thanks for that!

Have a nice day! Standard smile

@Babicookemunster- I agree and have noticed that the "Item Name" search will match to an individual word (or even partial word) and not the complete search phrase. Narrowing the phrase to be very specific will bring up results that contain any of the words of the specific phrase. "Item Name" searches are searching the text of the entire upload instead of being limited to Item Name matches.

Example: Before the update, searching the phrase "Classic Goths" would've resulted with the old version of the Goth family (as posted by Maxis), matching only the Item Name containing the complete phrase, "Classic Goths".

However, after the update, search results now bring up any posts that contain "class" or "classic" or "goth" that can be found as part of the Item Name -or- in the description -or- as a hashtag. This may mean that the search query isn't limited to matching the search phrase to only the "Item Name" category.

@PansekshuElle post shows her results from the search phrase "Pier Perfection", which show matches to any uploads that contain "Pier" or "Perfect" or "Perfection" found individually in the "Item Name" or description or as a hashtag.

Hey everyone!  As Cade mentioned earlier, the team is aware of the issue and I have full confidence that they will address the problem.  In the meantime, I suggest using the filters to narrow down your results.  I realize this won't work for everything but maybe give it a shot.

For apartment searching, select the Rooms category, since apartments must be saved by room.  I did several searches for San Myshuno and Evergreen Harbor lots, as well just a search for Apartment, using the Rooms filter and found numerous creations.

@Vyo4   Hi!  I found the Maxis version of the Classic Goths by selecting Maxis Curated and Households filters.

@Babicookemunster   Hello!  I wasn't able to find Allu Arjun either.  I searched for Allu and used the Households filter.  Only a handful of creations came up in the results but they did not match the name.  This could be related to the search issue.  However, it's also possible this creation is no longer available on the Gallery.  Perhaps the creator removed it or the household was inadvertently removed.  Just yesterday, I discovered a Lot and a Household were removed from my Gallery Catalog and ended up re-sharing them.

Thank you for the reply @JonaO703. I was using "Classic Goths" as an example of the search function results I noticed, not that I actually needed to find them. I am aware and grateful the Sims Team is looking into this matter.

To clarify, if searching for any Non-Maxis-Fav households, the following example illustrates that the "Item Name" search function searches all the text of an upload, including matching words from the description or hashtags, despite the search function being restricted to "Item Name".

Example: Search Households by Item Name: "Halloween Spooky Students" - will result with all households that contain the word(s): "Halloween" or "spooky" or "student" or "students", found anywhere including the description -or- as a hashtag -or- as only one of the words in "Item Name". The search need only match to one of the words of a phrase instead of an exact phrase. Search by "Item Name" has become "Search for Word" after the update. It also ignores pluralization. "Student" or "students" will both be included in the results.

Example: Search Lots by Item Name: "Circus Train" will result with any uploads that contain the word(s): "Circus" or "Train" - even resulting with posts with the word "Training" in the description.

Just passing this discovery along. Thank you for your time and attention into this matter.

@Vyo4   Yes!  I completely understand and agree there is an issue with the search function.  The current search appears to be using an OR statement to find any of the search criteria within any part of the Gallery share including hashtags.  Searching for halloweenspookystudents I was able to find your creation as well as the stolen one.  :-)

I was just trying to help players by suggesting that they may be able to use the filters as a workaround to narrow down their results for some things.  I tagged you because you mentioned it.  My apologies for causing any confusion.  I realize that it's not a fix and I only used the Classic Goths search as an example.  As I said, I know this won't work for everything, but perhaps the filters can help some users.

Edit: It may be helpful for users looking for specific lots to try searching for things by typing descriptions without using spaces.  This will only work if the creator included a hashtag that matches what you're looking for.  An example might be if you're looking for lots / rooms with perfect quality plants, then search for perfectquality (no spaces) or maybe you're looking for a specific lot like dustyturf (a lot in Oasis Springs).  Again, this is not a fix but possibly a workaround to help find creations that meet your needs.

@JonaO703 Got it :-) and Yep, I agree. Searching by Hashtag or Player ID has been working for the meantime. Now I'm gonna go see what's up with that stolen #HalloweenSpookyStudents. Thank you!
