Installing the k-lite codec pack worked for me as well. Now it launches and no dots at all and just shows an EA logo and go's to the game.

Thanks for figuring this out.

I don't know if this might have been part of the issue, but when it installed, it said it found an error, or left over in the registry from another codec. For me it was the Windows 10 store audible app.
