Titanfall crashes in menu screen via materialsystem_dx11.dll (not mid-game)

So, title says it -- the game consistently crashes in the second menu (First menu loads up fine, then there's the starship loading, and immediately afterwards, I have a crash). I know a lot of people have that materialsystem_dx11.dll crash, but the largest post was about "mid-game", and I haven't even started the game once.

A screenshot of the crash: http://i.imgur.com/HCodNsU.png

I have tried almost everything:

* Windows 8.1, fully updated, NVIDIA 320m, newest drivers (I've tried the beta one);

* Registry cleaned using Ccleaner, Temp folders cleaned, I've tried clean msconfig boot too;

* -safe mode tried, also tried launching it in 1024x768, vsync was off, and still crashes;

* firewall is disabled, antivirus is uninstalled, the network is set as a Private network;

* reinstalled the game once and repaired it several times; game is installed in the default Origin directory.

* ran DirectX executable from installation directory; ran the game as admin; ran Origin as admin;

and yet it crashes.

I'm open to any advice, willing to test just about anything. I just want to make it work so I can play with my friend.

Thanks any and all.

So all this reporting and still no answers from EA? The sad thing is Titanfall was working until the patch came out then materialsystem_dx11.dll pops up for a crash report. I know I have an older Radeon card (ATI Radeon 4890), but I never expected this much of an issue and seeing this many reports with absolutely zero definitive answers.

From another thread that seem to describe the same issue:

* A dxdiag pastebin from user Dmetal: http://pastebin.com/VfnFEiwK

 * A hardware and dxdiag report from user Masiker: http://pastebin.com/n6y7a85B

I'll be updating this comment with more useful info if more separate posts about this bug crop up.

LuckyBastard: so you're saying the game worked for you previously but it started crashing in the private lobby only after the patch? That might be useful information.

I personally have bought the game only very recently and have not played the pre-patch version before.

I was a part of the other topic that was linked to in this thread - here is my response in that topic.

I have been in talks with EA help for the past couple of days - they have had me try all sorts of things to fix this and nothing has worked. Right now I am in a conversation with a "Games Specialist" who apparently is the best chance of being able to fix this issue. If we figure anything out I will be sure to pass it along to everyone.

Here's to hoping.

I posted this on the other thread as well but just to try to make the information available to the most people :

So here is the most recent conversation that I had with the Game Specialists :

Mark: Sorry about the delay there Bryan. I can see that the majority of these crashes are as a result of the same file/module on your computer, which is showing as materialsystem_dx11.dll. This is actually an issue that is being investigated by the Titanfall studio at the moment, as they have seen a lot of reports of it recently. Unfortunately I do not have a timeframe for a fix  on it at the moment, but it is being looked into as we speak
you: OK. So what do I do in the mean time?
Mark: Unfortunately the only thing we can advise in the meantime would be to wait. I know this is probably the last thing you want to hear, but none of the tools that I have access to here will be able to fix this. I have seen some reports where people report the crashing stopped when running MSI Afterburner (http://event.msi.com/vga/afterburner/download.htm), or by going into the computer settings and enabling Software Automatic Fan Control, but this is not something that we would recommend doing, and is not a guaranteed fix
you: is there any estimated timeframe that this should be fixed in? I understand that there are never any definite answers, I am just looking for an educated guess.
Mark: Nothing definite, but as this seems to have affected quite a few people I would guess it is a pretty high priority. It will depend on the complexity of the issue, but once the cause is determined it should be no more than a few days to get a fix in place
Mark: The only problem is that I wouldn't know how long it will take to locate the exact cause, especially for a game as complex as Titanfall
Mark: If you wish I can take a look on he developer forums for any possible threads that might be of use, and email them out to you, so that you can keep an eye on them for any updates?
Mark: *the
you: It seems to have happened after the patch that occurred on the 10th or 11th - everyone that i have seen in the forums have only recently purchased the game
Mark: Yeah, have actually stumbled across one or two myself and definitely seems to be a pretty recent issue. Hopefully that will mean they can isolate it to be something caused by the update, and that should speed it up slightly. From what I have seen so far the have been very quick to address any issues, so I would be confident that as soon as they figure out the cause this will be fixed up pretty swiftly

He siad that this issue is being looked at by the development team and they should have something fixed "soon"...here's to hoping...

Nice work Pharases!

If you get any more info, please keep us posted. In the meantime, I doubt there is anything else we can do but wait.

I don't think the fan control or anything will help with a menu screen crash, so don't try that, people. It *might* help in the case where the computer is fully utilized for an extended amount of time (like the mid-game crash) but I don't see how it can apply here.

Oh, and developers, in case you wanted to test something or get any data: ask us! I have a Master's in CS so I can follow instructions and collect data pretty well.... and I'm sure other gamers here are equally competent. So just let us know!
