Request: I would like to run Titanfall2, but I'm having some problems getting it to start. I have attempted to implement suggestions from previous reports to solve my issue, to no avail. I am open to suggestions and will report back with results.
Observation: Titanfall2 crashes on startup. I see a black screen for a second or two, then it dies.
Did it throw error codes? : Of the 19 attempts to run, I saw a single error message "createtexture2D failed to create texture ui/logo_gamelogo". Twice Origin asked for a crash report. Other than that, nothing.
Windows Event Viewer reports:
(18/19) Titanfall2 reports are:
Faulting application name: Titanfall2.exe, version: 1.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x5a2711ff
Faulting module name: d3d11.dll, version: 10.0.18362.387, time stamp: 0x7e72d1cb
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x0000000000128cb0
(1/19) Titanfall2 reports was:
Faulting application name: Titanfall2.exe, version: 1.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x5a2711ff
Faulting module name: atidxx64.dll, version: 26.20.15029.27016, time stamp: 0x5e9f5d77
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x0000000000a1e5d4
Note that both of these are access errors. The dll at fault seems to influence the offset reported, suggesting that there is not a "problematic bit" in the memory
Relevant Hardware:
AMD Ryzen 7 1700X @ 3.40GHz
16 GB RAM
64-bit Windows 10
Dual AMD Radeon R9 390
Drivers:
- dxdiag/directX - up to date
- GPU driver/AMD Radeon bloatware - up to date
- Bios UEFI - up to date
Test results:
- chkdsk - no errors
- Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool - no errors
- "sfc /scannow" - found 3 corruptions with OneDrive. These were corrected, with no change to this problem.
- Steam verify integrity - no errors
Potential conflicts addressed:
- Windows defender granted exception for Titanfall2.exe
- Chrome closed
- AMD Radeon Software closed
Launch Options:
"-novid -nomenuvid -window -noborder"
Other attempts with no impact (based on similar problems I found with Google):
- Physical reboot with 30s off time
- Hard Windows reboot "shutdown /s /f /t 0"
- Reinstall Titanfall2 files - I have done this 3 times
- Page file adjustment - from 2GB -> 16GB
- Run as administrator
- Starting from Origin rather than Steam
- "setting.shadow_enable" "0" in videoconfig.txt

I fixed it! First here are some more additions of things that did NOT work:
Contacting EA support - useless stuff, they didn't even read what I had tried before cranking me through the support desk meatgrinder
Clear Origin cache - no effect
CCleaner Applications cleanup - no effect
CCleaner Registry cleanup - no effect
Clean Boot - DID NOT DO - I use this PC for work related 3D modeling and anything I need Windows for, and it is unreasonable to expect me to wipe it for a game.
Complete uninstall and reinstall of GPU drivers -
- Uninstalled using the Control Panel method
- During reinstall of drivers, got error 1603 from AMD Adrenelin
- Used AMD cleanup
What did it:
Disabling AMD Crossfire. It appears that Titanfall 2 does not play nice with Crossfire'd video cards. I disabled it by going to AMD global settings and disabling crossfire.

Edit - more attempts to solve the problem:
Change Origin language to reset Origin - No effect
Delete and repair d3d11.dll - No effect
I'm not sure what the appropriate bump rate for this forum is, so I'm just going to assume the old standard of 1 bump / 24 hours.

Edit - more attempts to solve the problem:
Running DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth - No impact on issue
Running an OCCT gpu memtest - No errors
