sims 3 problem

★★★ Newbie

So I'm having this problem after buying the game on g2a.

 I downloaded origin, then the game, and got "an unknown error occurred".

So i looked it up but couldn't find any solution. I tried uninstalling both the game and origin, installing the expansions in correct order etc. Nothing works.

It doesn't even work when only installing the game.

Please help me. Thanks in advance.

Re: sims 3 problem

If you've tried to reinstall multiple times, you could have remnants of a previous install still on your computer, so it's a good idea to clean your registry with a tool like Piriform's CCleaner (PCs—the free version is fine) or do a manual uninstall (macs) before moving forward.  It might also be useful to clear Origin's cache.

If you're on a mac, the unknown error message is fairly common.  There are several reasons for it, including a computer that is insufficient to run the game and/or an incompatible graphics card.  Additionally, all new versions of mac OS starting with Mountain Lion (10.8) are incompatible with the game, compounding the problem.  Manually applying the Super Patch (digital download version) helps in some cases.

If you're still having issues, please post your computer's specs here so that someone can offer more specific advice.

@Mohananah

Your issue is nothing to do with where you bought the game from, although the site is dubious. @puzzlezaddict has linked to the help threads you need to try and get your game to work. It's always best to buy from reputable sellers, EA has a list here - https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/faq/where-to-buy-ea-games-v2/#trusted or directly through Origin.

In addition you may find the following stickies thread helpful for Sims 3 Mac issues - https://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-Mac/READ-FIRST-Sims-3-Mac-Help-Guides-and-Troubleshooting/m-p/749...
