hi, I have just figured out how to download my sims 3 expansion packs on origin, however, it now says an unknown error occurred. I have a 2017 MacBook Air and the game won't play at all now where as it did before I downloaded the expansion packs????

@shannonlaurax, you need to read this guide to getting Sims 3 to work on your computer. And not all of the expansion packs may not run well due to the graphics power required to run the game (for example Seasons, Pets or Into the Future).

Since you did not provide us with your computer's specs (Found under the Apple logo in the left hand corner in "About This Mac"), you also have to edit your Graphics card settings manually as Sims 3 is an older game and does not support newer graphics cards. The instructions on how to do this are covered in the link above as well.

@shannonlaurax  Since your game ran fine before you installed the expansions, you'll probably only need to apply two of the workarounds for the unknown error.  The first is to create an alias for each pack that doesn't already have one in Applications, alongside the alias for the base game:

The second workaround involves moving files around for packs that normally don't install properly.  For these packs—Ambitions, Late Night, Fast Lane, and Outdoor Living—you need to move their files into the folder for your newest pack by release date.  This video shows exactly what to do:

When you're done, make sure to run the Super Patch (digital download version) to patch your game to 1.67.  The launcher doesn't always do a good job patching, so it's better to do it yourself.
