Updating freezes on mac!

I try updating the game. Origin does not let me do it so i use the launcher. I click that i want to update, then the dialog box saying UPDATING and it freezes. I need to use cmd + alt + escape to shut it down. Is there any solution apart from downloading the manual patch.

Presumably you're talking about Sims 3? Origin is irrelevant when playing Sims 3 on a Mac, it is only needed to download the game. Downloading the super patch is the best way to patch Sims 3.
