Sims 3 on Mac won’t launch

★★★ Newbie

Sims 3 and expansion packs don’t work on Mac! I purchased the sims 3 and the sims 3 seasons a YEAR ago and they still don’t work! I’ve contacted “help” and was told to wait that they were working on it, I’ve done this many times within a year and again tonight after many tries and 2 hours of so called tech support I was told to please wait for the developers to make a patch. Folks it’s not gonna happen. I asked if I could get a credit because the games have never worked and I was told they would send an email about it. That email never came. So here I am! Any help or advice on how to get my $ back or an exchange for something compatible with my Mac would be most welcome and helpful.

@z14nwy25cp2  I have no idea how you could go about getting an exchange or refund if customer support has already punted on the issue.  But it may be possible to get TS3 up and running on your mac, if you're still interested.  Some models can be more stubborn than others, and a few would-be players have not been able to launch the game despite their best efforts.  On the other hand, the problem could be fixable with one step.

I'm guessing that you've been getting an unknown error message every time you try to launch the game.  There are several causes for it, but with only the base game and Seasons installed, the issue is likely that the game doesn't recognize your graphics card.  This can (usually) be fixed with an edit of the game's .sgr files.  Some macs have the text for the necessary edits already available; for others, you'd have to do a bit of work:

If this process is something you're not comfortable doing yourself, or you'd like some guidance, just post your mac's specs here, along with the device ID of your graphics card.  You could also post on Bluebellflora's site directly; she'll see it either way.  Here's how to find the relevant information:

In the meantime, if you've uninstalled and reinstalled the game, you'll need to do a manual uninstall before proceeding, as the uninstaller that comes with the game will miss some files.  Then you can reinstall the base game only and run the Super Patch to patch to 1.67.
