Sims 3 Won't Launch on Mac

I recently downloaded sims 3 onto my mac through origin. Every time I go to open it, the launcher comes up, i press play, and then nothing happens. I tried opening it through origin but when I press play it just opens up the origin application again. I have looked at many threads with similar problems but nothing has worked. I have two expansion packs if that makes a difference.

Origin is not required to play the game on a Mac so forget trying to launch it through there. Here are more details on my mac. I'm not using any mods or running an antivirus. I have Island Paradise and Pets expansion packs installed.
