@Danielle81195 Is your computer a pc or mac? Does your base game appear in Origin?

I am really sorry about your problem! The same thing happened to me on my Mac a little over a month ago. I had tried to download the Sims 3 Late Night onto my game, but after downloading it said, Unknown Error Occured. I decided to uninstall my whole game and reinstall, but it still did not work. After going through customer service on EA, going through the answers pages, and just googling for help, I gave up. I have since gotten a new computer (Windows, not Mac) and have been playing with all my expansion packs just fine. I am sorry but I think using a Windows computer is the only solution. It seems as if EA never really tried to make the Sims 3 Mac friendly.

@roberta591 My computer is a MasOS Sierra, and yes the base game shows up in origin. I am able to play it along with all my other expansion packs just fine, it was only those two games (Ambitions and Outdoor Living Stuff) that seem to not install correctly because I get that message when I try to launch it after.

I deleted my sims 3 games off my computer I have 6 ep's and 1 sp. I was running out of storage and my external hd crashed. In buying a new external HD, I've been trying to re download everything but my Sims 3 Late Night and Ambitions are somehow not installing correctly. Once downloaded via Origin (MAC) , I click to install and everything runs smoothly until I click TS3 folder and I notice that the icon for the ep ambitions or late night is missing. If I click the base game icon, I get the pop up message of "an unknown error occurred". This is incredibly frustrating considering I spent so much money on this game and it's causing me to spend all of my time troubleshooting a game instead of playing it. I have done everything from: downloading the super patch manually, deleting and reinstalling, creating a new user account on my computer, putting my computer on safe mode temporarily, turning off my antivirus software, moving the electronic arts folder to my desktop, installing the games on a blank external hd, deleting all trans gaming files in "Library", deleting origin and deleting all origin files f and re downloading it, downloading the "reset origin" software and using it. I literally don't know what else to do. No one will help me. I've contacted EA advisors 15+ times they tell me that I should wait for a specialist to contact me but then I look back at my case and they close it.

I read that thread thoroughly and nothing helps me there unfortunately. My game is patched to the latest super patch last two numbers "17".

I'm having the same problem myself. It looks like I'll have to do what you did and get a Windows computer.

So i downloaded the Sims 3 starter pack from origin. originally i just installed the base game and it was working just fine then i installed the high end loft stuff and it was still working fine. then when i installed late night the game wouldn't even open. every time i click play i get a message that says "unknown error occurred."i have deleted all the files and reinstalled it twice now and it still does the same thing. I just uninstalled the late night by itself and now the base game runs just fine please HELP!!! its really frustrating me, all i want is to play the late night expansion.

I've just started playing sims 3 again after a long break, and reinstalled Origin and my games. I'm trying to open the sims 3, but whenever I click play, seconds later an error message pops up saying that an unknown error has occurred. Can anyone point me in the right direction on what to do? TIA

I've had Sims 3 for around a year now, and have previously downloaded Pets and University Life to my Mac (I vaguely remember having to fiddle with it a bit to get them to work, but nothing I couldn't fix fairly easily). A couple days ago I bought Ambitions, and Origin says it's ready to play but a) I can't actually find it anywhere on my laptop outside of Origin, and b) every time I try and run the game it justs pops up with an error message that reads "an unknown error occurred" regardless of if I try and start it through Origin or my own Launchpad. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling it multiple times without any sucess, however, when the expansion is uninstalled the game will run normally. Any suggestions on how to fix this?
