sims 3 my sim disappeared from the household and i can't get him back

Hello!

My sim went away on a vacation and never came back. His icon is gone from the screen, and when I load the family in the town he isn't in the family portrait. He still comes up in the relationship panel, but he's listed with the long distance sims and it will not let me text or call him. Is there anyway to get him back, or is my game stuck like this?

Okay, let's try a variety of things:

ResetSim:

• Open cheat console (shift, ctrl, c)
• type in: resetSim firstname surname
• hit enter

That probably won't work, but give it a try all the same. 

Move him in and out:

• go to edit town
• click on your household and choose split household (he should be there, otherwise, try merge household)
• move the guy out / in with someone else
• Resume live mode and play for a bit
• Move him back in via edit town
