sims 3 going black screen please help

Every time I go into build and buy mode when I'm building a house, I get two or three things done then it goes black screen, but I can still hear the game. I have to restart my laptop just to get it to go away. (ex; windows on first floor done, stairs to second floor done, rooms upstairs made, then black screen) I just want to play my game without this glitch. I have updated my laptop to see if would help, it didn't. I have Norton anti-virus and my computer is clean, and I have plenty of space on my computer.

@BamaAngel95  Is your computer a pc or mac? Did the game ever work correctly?
