Upgrade/Expansion pack problems

I bought the expansion pack island paradise and i tried to install it yesterday. I installed just fine but then when I went to run it, a pop up said that it was not compatible with my Sims 3 base game. , and I need to upgrade. That didn't seem like a problem, but I had already upgraded to the 1.5 version and it wont et me upgrade anymore considering there are no more upgrades. What is also weird though is that at the bottom left where it used to say 1.57 version before I installed the expansion, now says 1.54, but it still wont let me upgrade. I am very confused and I just want to play my game, please help! I am really hoping I don't have to uninstall my base game because ill lose my games! hopefully there is another way.

First of all, you won't loose your games when you uninstall. You can make backups of those and put them back.

Second, what's your operating system ? Did you try patching again ?
