Sims 3 reset itself and messed up screen size

My sims 3 game, which was just fine yesterday, reset all its settings and now the screen size wont fit. If I change resolution to my recommended setting everything is too tiny to read or control but it does fit. I'm about to uninstall and reinstall it to find out if its just bad files. it also will flash between the load screen and desktop before finally crashing.

Any help would be great!

@srich83  Is your computer a pc or mac? What resolution is the game at? What resolution is the recommended setting?
