Hello,
I just recently purchased a Samsung 64-bit laptop with Windows 8. I installed my Sims 3 base game along with all the expansion and stuff packs I have but when I play it, it will crash to the desktop at random times with a message saying, "the Sims 3 has stopped working." This has become aggravating. I have the latest patch for the game 1.42, tried deleting custom content, tried the DEP fix and tried running the game in compatibility mode but it's still crashing. Don't know if it's a Windows 8 issue or a computer issue. I'm pretty sure my laptop meets the requirements. A solution ASAP would be helpful, thank you.
I have Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000. I have a feeling it may be my video card.

How much dedicated memory does the chip have ?
Could you post your Computer's DxDiag?
To gather a DxDiag on your computer, please follow the steps below:
If you have Microsoft Windows XP:
1. Click the Start button on the Windows Taskbar.
2. Select Run.
3. Type dxdiag in the available text field.
4. Click OK.
5. Click Save All Information.
If you have Windows Vista/Win 7 and do not have a Run selection:
1. Click On Start
2 Type dxdiag into Search Box
3. Click Save All Information.
Either use two posts to post all or only post the part up to [sound device].
Please let me know if you have a switchable graphic card. That usually does not show in the DxDiag.
Good Luck

I'm not really a computer expert so I don't want to go messing with my laptop's files and ruin the system. I did the search. but which files are the ones i'm supposed to open?? Couldn't I just post my computer's specs, like my video and graphics card because I have a strong feeling that's the issue. My dad had the same problem with one of his games and he told me it was most likely my video card but my laptop is brand new, I don't understand. There are other people who aren't having any problems running sims 3 on a windows 8 computer. If I had known this I would've purchased a different laptop. I'm trying my best to be patient with EA. I'm waiting for another patch to come out to see if that helps any.
How do I tell if my video/graphics card is switchable?

You can post your graphic card info but the interesting info is the amount of dedicated memory and your drivers date. That' would all be in the DxDiag.
I'm not really that familiar with Win 8 but you should find info about your hardware somewhere to check if you have a card in there or only the chip you listed.
Good Luck

did you ever get your issue resolved, because I have the same exact computer you do, the game will allow me to play for a while and then crashes exactly like yours and it is aggravating especially losing all of your game play like skills etc..

I'm interested in knowing if you all were able to solve the problem...I'm having the same issue
2013-03-10 08:35 AM
Same Issue. Just bought a Samsung series 3 laptop and it crashes every 10 minutes or so of gameplay. I have fully updated the game.
2013-03-10 05:18 PM
I got widows 8 and it doesn't let me install it from my disks, so I have to go onto Origin and download it, before that I had it on another computer, it crashed ever 20 minutes, and if it didn't crash it wouldn't let me save...
2013-04-05 04:28 PM
same issue... tried un and reinstalling sims 3, ambitions, late night and supernatural but nothing...
