I have a Dell XPS 2720 computer and Sims 3 was working perfectly fine until Windows pushed a Windows 8.1 update automatically. After it had updated, Sims 3 stopped working. I would load up the launcher, click pla, then get a message saying "service initialization failed" and then the launcher would close itself. I tried absolutely everything that was suggested on forums to solve this problem and try and get it working again, for example...
- uninstalling then re-installing the base game and expansion packs
- taking all of my custom content out
- clearing the cache
- using the 'super patch'
- etc.
It's definitely not a problem with the memory or the system requirements because the game actually worked before the Windows 8.1 update!! Please help me solve this problem and tell me why it's happening and what I need to do about it.
