Serial key issues

Hi, I have bought the sims 3 a year ago at pcgamesupply.com and I cant register them. I am not sure if I havent done that already to my account or to my girlfriends account (since it was a present). Is there any possibility how i can find out on who the sims 3 serial key is registered?

Do you have an base game icons showing up on the myPage of your thesims3.com account ? Or does your girlfriend ? If so, the game is already registered.
