SIms 3 panels and money missing.

I have a problem with the portrait panels. After I make a family and come back later after saving, the portrait panels are missing, all my money is gone and I can not control my sims anymore. It is really bothering me because I can not continue with families I have saved and all progress is gone, because the problem is not occurring after I start a new family, only when I come back to a saved family. I hope someone can help me with this.
