I've tried re-running the app in compatability mode back to Windows XP SP2, as administrator... still no luck.

I took a dxdiag test, the results are here: http://pastebin.com/ZjJRG5VG

Nothing sticks out as an issue.

I think the most frustrating thing is that the app just errors out telling me to check the log (with no link/button to open it!) and when I check the log it is empty anyway.

I haven't applied the superpatch yet recommended here: http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-3/FAQ-Service-initialization-failed/td-p/65394

but that is next on my list if there is nothing else simple to try.  I also didn't blow away my user data... as that's pretty much the only reason why I wouldn't just try to re-install.

@scunliffe37 did you update your graphics card drivers for Windows 10? 

Try downloading the super patch

With reinstalling - I assume you are referring to the concern that you'll lose all your save games, etc? You can back it up if you go down that route

Thanks, yes I did attempt to update graphic card drivers, it claims they are all up to date.  Windows 10 has been fully brought up to date too (checked for updates this morning)

I did apply the superpatch (it was already at that level, but I tried re-applying it anyway)... still no luck.

I'm going to back up the user data next... and hope that a "clean" start might solve it?

Did you try right clicking on the ts3 file and selecting troubleshoot compatibility and try the windows 8 mode? to get to said file right click on sims 3 icon, choose open folder location and scroll down to ts3 file. You probably know that but just in case you don't or someone else does not that reads this. Good luck.

Maybe your resolutions don't match between game and options game file. right click on desktop and find out what resolution you are running in. then go so my documents, electronic arts, sims 3 and look for options.ini file. right click on that file and copy somewhere you can find easily. i usually throw it on my desktop. open the original folder in your documents file and hit ctrl f type in resolution and check to see if it matches what you are running. if not change it and dont forget the refresh rate and spaces. if this dont work just put your copied file back in original folder.

Right click on sims 3 icon. click open folder location. right click on ts3 file. click troubleshoot compatibility. choose windows 8 or some such. hope this helps.

I am having an issue of all my options resetting each time Windows 10 updates.  No other EA games seem to be effected just Sims 3. It isn't a huge deal as I'm able to play unlike the other users.  More annoying than anything but thought I should report it.

I think it have some problem with skylake CPUs I just change to i7 6700k and when I tries to launch TS3 this  massage shows up

A required security module cannot be activated.
This program cannot be executed (8016).

My sims3 game was working fine in windows 8.1, when I updated to windows 10 it wiped out my saved game and all my stuff downloaded from the store (normal stuff nothing from the exchange, no mods). So I reinstalled everything and made a new sim and started a new game. It launches, and runs, but it keeps freezing every few seconds right away, no matter where or what my sim is doing, walking, eating, etc, everything just freezes for 1-2 secs and then picks back up, and everything freezes again within a few seconds, over and over. Obviously this makes the game virtually unplayable. Windows is up to date, video card drivers are up to date, I tried lowing all my settings, I tried having windows trouble shoot it's compatibility, and manually changing it myself to 8, 7, and XP service pack 2, no success. I've also tried the whole renaming my game in docs to a backup and having it create a new "The Sims 3" file all fresh and shiny for me to test out, and it continues to freeze and glitch (though not AS badly when running the fresh game in windows 8 compatibility, but still small shuddering freezes). My dxdiag is below. Any help would be appreciated.
