Origin can not save games in a root folder. Select another folder.

Hello.

I want to install a game on my external hard drive, but I can´t. For every time I try it says "Origin can not save games in a root folder. Select another folder." I have tried to search the internet for a solution but no luck. I hope I can get some help here.

What that means is that you have to create a folder on the external drive first and then select that new folder for the install.

For example, you cannot install to just E:\ (if let's say E is mapped letter being used for the external drive). You can install to E:\Program Files or whatever you want to call the new folder.

Having said that although different internal drives are fine, games like TS3 should never really be installed and run from an external drive nor should user game folders (usually in Documents) be run that way -- meaning a drive that is actually outside of your computer. No matter how good the external connection is, there will almost always be data transfer issues as unlike some other types of programs or media files, the games need constant access to their program and data files while being played.

What you can do is that install the games under the folder as origin indicates, and later on, use the "move game" function to move the installed games to root directory.
