New Laptop Overheats

★★★★★ Newbie

Hi,

I just bought a new ASUS N550 Laptop.  Specs are:  8GIG RAM, I7 Quad Core, 4GB Nvidia 760 Graphics Card.  I have purchased all the Sims 3 games and expansion packs, etc. and installed them all.  I was having issues with my previous laptop which isn't quite 3 years old with it overheating and shutting down.

I downloaded an applicationt to measure the temperatures on my new laptop and sure enough.  As soon as I started using Sims 3 it started to overheat.  The laptop is running at 90C which is WAY too hot.  I seriously just bought this laptop and hoped that the specs would be enough to not have this happen.  ESPECIALLY the 4GB Graphics Card.  I also have it sitting on a cooling stand with fans.

What the heck is going on?  Why is it running so hot.  I really want to play this game, but I am not about to ruin my new laptop by overheating.  Please FIX THIS!

Linda

Does the laptop feel hot? 90 degrees C is in the hot zone (hotter then I would like to see it). The problem is TS3 uses the computer hard. Check the power settings. If settings are set to High Performance then change to Balanced and see if that bring the temperature down.

Try limiting your FPS through vsync in the game options.

Also make sure you have enough cooling. Maybe use a cooling pad.

Changing the settings to Balanced DID indeed help!!!!  Thanks so much.  Although at has freezed a couple of times...I am still fussing with a couple of settings to help that because that is the graphics stuff.  Last night I think I finally sorted that problem out and everything is working well.....doesn't go past 60C now.

YEAH!
