Installing the sims 3 expansion packs

The Sims 3 installs fine. But when I try to install the expansion and stuff packs, I get a message to update the launcher. When I do that, I get an error message whenever I try to open the launcher. I used the super patch, when that didn't work; I tried to do it incrementally but that didn't work either.

What does the error message say?

when I use the super patch it simply says that the launcher has stopped working. If I try to install an expansion pack it says I must update the launcer and try again.
