I can't choose a house in Sims 3

Its just like the university or the opposite. It lets me create a family but when i pick a house the blue check just turns gray!

I tired restarting the first time it happened but when I got on it again it did again
It happens overtime I play Sims 3
Do I need to install?
Please respond because I really want to start making families and start the university
