Have my Sims gone to that great recycle bin in the sky?

★★★ Newbie

Hi all,

Unsure if you can help. I feel like I've tried everything. Basically my Origin updated a while back and since then my Sims 3 will not play. The game loads, plays through the into and then when the start screen appears, you can't do anything.  I've attached a pic hopefully.  It's the same PC it's been playing on for a few years and it's always ran well so I have no clue what's going on.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled both the base game and any expansions/stuff packs.  I've tried running only the base game with nothing else installed.  I've cleared everything that can be cleared and even reinstalled Windows.  I've uninstalled and reinstalled Origin, I'm at a complete loss.

Can anyone shed any light on this or have my sims gone to that great recycle bin in the sky?

Cheers!

@tikamacphee  I have to admit I've never seen anything quite like what's in your screenshot, but there are a few basic troubleshooting steps I can think of off the top of my head.  First, if you kept your TS3 game folder (the one in Documents), drag it onto your desktop (not just pieces, the whole thing) and try launching the game again.  It's possible that one or more files in that folder are corrupt, and that getting them out of the way will fix the issue.

Also, when you uninstalled Origin, did you remove all its cache files first?  If not, try that, and then if it doesn't help, clear the cache files again and uninstall "the hard way."

If that doesn't help either, sign into Origin and put it in offline mode before launching TS3.  (Remove your game folder again, even though it won't have much in it, just in case there's an odd cache file that doesn't need to be there.)

And if none of this changes anything, please run a dxdiag and attach the results to a post here (use the Browse button).
