@EA_Mai G'day mate have we got any updates on how the dev team is going with resolving this issue. Got a friend that plays on a tablet and there is a event we are all missing out on.
Spend not only years but also money on this game. And we also missing out on events for over a month.
Looks like they dont give a * about their community.

I had a software update from Android yesterday but TSTO still isn't working on my device, if anyone knows a similar type of game can you tell me so i can play a TSTO type of game again because i don't think the problem will be solved between EA-games and Android 9. Maybe by the time the problem is solved i will be using Android 10...

I too have had this problem.
I have this problem over 3G, 4G, WiFi.
I have cleared all data.
I have cleared cache.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled.
There are no battery saver restrictions set on the app.
There are no data usage restrictions set on the app.
I have used all the default permissions for the app, and I have changed all the permissions settings for the app such as: Storage, Home screen shortcuts, Show on lock screen, Start in background, enabling or disabling these do not fix the issue.

Just fix your game for people with great devices.
I received a positive response from EA just now. The message is as follows and we should wait patiently for a fix to arrive in one of the future updates to the app.
TSTO was released in 2013 while Android was at v4.0.4. They have to balance the time, money and dev resources spent on updating the game for new devices and OS versions against the money they still make from it, and often the money wins. Companies like to prioritise new products over propping up old ones on an increasing outdated codebase, which has probably been hacked apart by successive devs who each have their own ideas about the best way of doing things, and it's doubtful they'll fund a rewrite on a newer tech stack.
TL;DR: it's an old game, don't hold your breath for a quick fix
