Mayan calendar error

When collecting the Mayan calendar pieces for some reason it gave me 2 of the largest pieces.  Now it is confused and keeps telling me to place the last piece but there is nowhere to place it as it is a spare... I cant sell it or remove it and because of this I am unable to progress in the limited time quests.  Anyone have any ideas???
