i had the same problem after i updated from windows 7 to windows 10 with update assistent.
Do i was surprised it even worked still i had this problem with keyboard-

the solution was defintily the origin ingame Overlay, after deactivating it worked fine!

The only reason I'm posting is that I have to say what terrible customer service that Dice and EA are providing for this game.  The original post was from November 2015 and It is now December 2018. Over 3 years and still an unresolved basic issue which makes the game unplayable.  Wow EA. I know EA gets a lot of * but in this case, they have earned it.

EA do us a favor and let Valve handle the storefront. It is obvious you guys don't have a clue how to manage your games.

I try pressing space to get into menu and ive turned off the origin in the game preferences but it still doesnt work. I run a laptop so I have no way to unplug and replug
